Anti-Poaching Unit

Protecting wildlife around the Mkuju River Project through a special public-private conservation partnership with the Government of Tanzania.

Anti-Poaching

The Mkuju River Project

The Mkuju River Project site borders the Nyerere National Park (the former Selous Game Reserve) — a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the wake of the frustrating poaching situation of 2013, Mantra Tanzania Limited, which operates the Mkuju River Project, underscored the need for highly effective and efficient anti-poaching strategies to contain poaching in the reserve.

Mantra believes anti-poaching approaches must be strategic, and should exalt and actively involve the surrounding communities. To help address the crisis, Mantra decided to strongly support anti-poaching efforts in Nyerere National Park and prioritised the conservation and protection of wildlife in the project area as its mainstay commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility.
